Kathy Bates- 1997 Titanic's "Molly Brown"
 ©

I was intrigued from the very beginning by the portrayal of character Molly Brown in the 1997 movie Titanic. She was portrayed as a woman of bold character, definitely not typical of well bred first-class women from this era. I wanted to know if there was any truth behind the wildly charismatic woman played by Kathy Bates.  I was enthusiastically surprised to learn that Molly Brown was not fictional, but based on Margaret Tobin Brown, a survivor from the April 1912 sinking of Titanic. She was never referred to as "Molly" during her lifetime but would be affectionately remembered throughout history as the Unsinkable Molly Brown.  Through research I have discovered that the heroin of Titanic had many incredible accomplishments throughout her amazing life. There is far more to be said about Margaret Tobin Brown. Learning of her life, travels, and ambitious pursuits has been an amazing academic adventure. This blog is an academic project for my American History class.
